Then cut it out. I folded my fabric over then cut my pattern pieces that way they are mirror images of each other. Cut 2 of these for 2 oven mitts. You will have 4 total hand pieces. Then cut the same amount in fusible fleece. I used the heavy weight iron on.
Once all the pieces are cut out iron on each fleece to each mitt piece.
Then to finish the opening I zig zag stitched to keep them from fraying before I hem them. You could also use pinking sheers to do this part when you are cutting your pieces to save time later.
Keep the fabric close so when it zigs it catches the edge of the fabric. Then fold the edge & top stitch. You could also use bias tape for this part too.
Now for the velcro straps. You could easily do without these but if I had to chose my perfect oven mitt I would want to hang it on the oven door when not in use. You could also just make a basic loop. But here’s how I made mine. I make a tube of fabric depending how thick or thin you want your straps. Mine measured 1″wide x 4″ high. Stitch up the side & across the top. Then turn it right side out.
I only used one layer of fusible fleece but you could use 2 or 3. You could also add a lining if you would like. If you use bias tape to finish the seem you could make the oven mitts reversible :)
